An afternoon walking tour of the city centre led by a certified chef and sommelier, with multiple stops to taste local street food and detailed explanations in English of the Sicilian food and wine culture, followed by short drive to the best sunset location of the island for an aperitivo with a glass of good local wine. Heaven for the eyes and the palate.
This food tour of Lipari led by an English-speaking Italian certified chef, sommelier and Lipari enthusiast, is a must-do for all food lovers: you will not only taste the best street food and wine on the island, but also you will also hear many stories, and get useful tips and information of the local food culture and best places to eat & drink.
We will start in the main port of Lipari by having a chat in English about Sicilian food, sitting in a typical aeolian sea-front terrace coffee shop, while we enjoy a marvelous “granita” – the Sicilian ice treat which comes in many different flavours (coffee, peach, pistachio, strawberry, almond, to name a few…), accompanied by a local “brioche col tuppo”, a baked sweet round bread with a little sphere on the top.
We will then have a nice walk into the town of Lipari with multiple stops along the way at all the food & wine shops selling the main local produce – such as capers, sundried tomatoes, oregano, ricotta cheese and Malvasia delle Lipari DOC sweet wine – while your guide explains how to select and where to buy the best ingredients to take home and how to tell the genuine product from the fake.
We will also stop at a typical street food vendour, where we will taste the best “arancini” in town: Sicilian fried rice balls with different stuffings, such as meat sauce, tuna fish or cheese, which we can enjoy together with a drink, sitting on a bench. Other aeolian fried specialties are also available like calzoni, pidoni, pizza and many more.
Our walk will proceed thru the small streets “off the beaten track” down to the ancient port of Marina Corta, where all the fishing boats are moored and where you can find the town’s main fish market. This is also our favourite place to taste the famous Sicilian “cannoli” filled with sweet ricotta cheese – not to be missed!
If the weather is good, we will then take a short car drive to the best place on the island for an aperitivo, looking out at a breathtaking sunset, a special spot where we will enjoy a glass of good local wine chosen and explained by our sommelier, and perhaps take some beautiful photographs to capture the perfect end to an unforgettable experience – heaven for the eyes and the palate!
We will then drive you back to the tour starting point in Lipari town.
